The default category pages in WordPress are great at collections of posts – as they are intended, but on some sites  – fx this one – the category pages would work better if they look more like landings pages – enter The Category Meta Boxes.

So how do we do this?

Luckily a guy much smarter than me have created a PHP Class for just this purpose and made is available to all – grab it here. I wont go into a detailed how to here, since this is already done my the developer

Another way, and less code intensive is by using the plugin Advanced Custom Fields, here you can create the meta fields in the admin panel and only worrying about making the template.

Either way, WordPress Category Meta Fields are a great oppertinity to optimize and make your category pages more inviting. And by adding relevant content giving Google more content to index encreasing your ranking – not a bad treat either.
